Northern Lights Yacht Cruise with Hot Tub from Tromso, 12 Guests
A four hour evening cruise on S/Y Stella Oceana, a 34 metre expedition sailing yacht that takes a maximum of 12 guests. Check-in is at 18:45, the yacht leaves central Tromsø at 19:00 and is back in the same harbour around 23:00. The captain reads the sea and the weather before picking which of the surrounding fjords to sail, so the route is not the same twice. Whether the aurora shows up is down to the night sky, and nobody on board pretends otherwise. There is an outdoor hot tub on deck, and each booking group gets 30 to 45 minutes in it alone. Warm water beats a dark deck and hands in pockets. Reindeer stew with bread is served in the heated saloon, with a non-alcoholic welcome drink when you board. Tell the crew at least 24 hours ahead if you want the vegetarian or vegan version. The captain and crew are local, and will tell you what you are sailing past if you ask. Dress warmly for the outer decks. Shoes and outdoor clothing come off at the saloon door. Inside there are books, games, pillows and blankets, plus coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and cookies.

Sjøgata 35, Tromsø
Stella Oceana is a white 34 metre sailing yacht with two wooden masts, moored at Sjøgata 35 in front of the Fiskekompaniet restaurant. Take the gangway in front of Home Hotel Aurora down to the floating dock and wait by the 'Stella Oceana' sign. Check-in is at 18:45, fifteen minutes before the 19:00 departure.
Tromso Fjords
Check-in at 18:45, departure from central Tromsø at 19:00 aboard S/Y Stella Oceana. Which of the surrounding fjords the yacht sails is decided on the night, by what the sea and the weather are doing. The outdoor decks are where you watch for the lights. Each booking group gets reserved private time in the hot tub, and the heated saloon is where you thaw out between spells outside: a non-alcoholic welcome drink, reindeer stew with bread, hot drinks and cookies. How far the yacht travels changes from night to night, and the aurora is never a certainty. The captain and crew are local, and talk about the water you are crossing. Back at the same central Tromsø harbour around 23:00.
